It's the Friday evening of Indoor Friesland's show jumping week, time for the Friese Avond (Friesian Evening), one of the absolute highlights of Indoor Friesland. The pride of Friesland
The Frisian horse is more than just a breed. It's a living symbol of strength, beauty, and culture. Generations of breeders and enthusiasts have shaped this horse into what it is today: a proud, elegant, and willing animal that conquers the world, but never denies its roots. In the Indoor Friesland arena, that centuries-old bond between man and horse comes to life. From the elegant Ladies' Class with Frisian horses in front of the Sjees to the impressive Honors Class, each section exudes tradition, craftsmanship, impressive horses, and admiration.
This year's Frisian Evening opens with a tribute to the sport: a celebration of Bram Chardon and Marijke Visser, two European champions who demonstrate the versatility of equestrian sport in the Netherlands. The podium is then dedicated to the very best Frisians and harness horses with the National Prize of the Best, the Dutch Championship for Frisian Stallions for the Sjees, and the very best Dutch Young Riders with their harness horses. Everything revolves around style, presentation, and perfection in harmony between horse and rider.

Top harness horses present themselves at Indoor Friesland
Indoor Friesland showcases all facets of equestrian sport, and Dutch harness horses are certainly a must. These horses bring spectacle, suppleness, and fire to the arena. The Young Riders Harness Horses open their section full of energy and ambition, as they are all so eager to perform at Indoor Friesland. These young talents have made their name this season and rightfully deserve a place in the impressive arena at the WTC Expo.
Later that evening, the top three harness horse riders will qualify for a unique showdown with the top three Young Riders of the Frisian breed. In this overall final, these young stars will compete against each other, supported by the spectators who will undoubtedly ensure a fierce battle. Will it be a Frisian victory in the Frisian capital, or will the harness horse strike?
The Frisians continue to impress
Meanwhile, major highlights follow. The Dutch Regional Pair-in-hand Championship for Friesian horses brings the most trained combinations to the starting line. Among them are crowd favorites like Jan Eppinga from Ureterp with his reliable team of Durk and Wietse, as well as young talent like Jelte Hoekstra, only eighteen years old, who this year won national titles in both the pair and four-in-hand categories.
Afterwards, the spectators will prepare for the Premier Class for the Frisian Sjees. This is all about allure, power, and precision. The competition promises to be intense, with names like Sybren Minkema with Gouverneur fan 't Hertefean and Henk Hammers with Wende van de Zunne, riders who will present their horses with the utmost precision.
Harness horses with class
Harness horses will also take center stage later in the evening, with the Open Class and the Pair Harness Horses. Here, the riders' craftsmanship is evident in every stride. The horses move with power and expression, and the audience is captivated by every round. The elite of Dutch harness racing demonstrates that tradition and modern showmanship can go hand in hand.

Here, the season's champions meet for the ultimate title: who is the best of the best? Big names, spectacular presentations, and pure emotion provide a fitting end to an evening full of highlights.
The soul of Friesland in the track
The Frisian Evening is more than just sport. It's a fusion of culture, tradition, and passion. From the elegant silhouette of a Frisian carriage to the fiery performance of a harness horse at full gallop: everything tells the story of human and horse understanding each other. The music, the excitement, the atmosphere… it's the soul of Friesland, captured in a single evening.
Anyone who's experienced the Frisian Evening knows why it evokes goosebumps every year. It's a tribute to the horse, to the people who live alongside them, and to the culture that connects them.
