Indoor Friesland 2025 concludes with a fantastic thriller in the SLTN Grand Prix

With a thrilling SLTN Grand Prix at a sold-out WTC Expo to conclude the fantastic show jumping week, Indoor Friesland 2025 will go down as one of the most beautiful editions ever. Regional top riders competed before packed stands during the Horses2fly day, pony riders were coached in the Allspan final, and a surprising, yet well-deserved, Grand Prix winner were just a few of the ingredients of the magical equestrian week in Leeuwarden.

After a wonderful and varied dressage week, last week it was the turn of the Univé family show Horses & Friends on Tuesday and the Indoor Friesland jumping week from Wednesday to Saturday.

Horses & Friends

Britt Dekker and Matheu, along with many other artists, delivered two wonderful shows that enchanted not only the children but also the many parents and grandparents in attendance with the magic of horses and friendship. Horses, ponies, acrobatics, a real Formula 1 car race, singing, and a great atmosphere kept the audience captivated until the very end.

Regional Horses2fly jumping day

On Wednesday, the regional show jumpers had a fantastic time at the Horses2fly finals. Thanks to free admission, people have the chance to experience this wonderful equestrian sport up close, and many families take advantage of this opportunity. Every year, it's a lively and enthusiastic crowd in the straw village and the stands. Every rider is loudly cheered on, whether they've cleared a pole or won. Although there was one rider who received the loudest cheers, and that was, of course, Frisian heroine Marriët Smit-Hoekstra.

The most beautiful competition there is

Like a rocket, Hoekstra skyrocketed from regional star to international top rider. She even made the Dutch team and became world champion with her stallion For Chacco TN. At Indoor Friesland, she competed in almost every class and even won a handful. Not the Grand Prix, but national and international classes. And Hoekstra was very clear in her opinion of Indoor Friesland. "This event is unique. The spectators are fantastic and they adore the riders. You won't find this anywhere else. Indoor Friesland is the most beautiful competition there is."

SLTN Grand Prix

After a business event and the exciting final of the Allspan Pony Cup on Thursday, the Unchained equine veterinary conference, and the highly acclaimed Friese Avond on Friday, all the international show jumpers competed in their main classes on Saturday. The only thirteen-year-old Joep Schaap won the Univé Grand Prix over a height of 1.40m, a remarkable achievement for this talented Dutch rider. A few hours later, the Dutch rider Jody van Gerwen astonished everyone with an almost impossibly fast jump-off in the SLTN Grand Prix over a height of 1.55m. With this, she snatched victory from last year's winner, Willem Greve with Highway TN.
