Lasaulec & Velzen Textile Cleaning Prix for Jessie Wiefferink
The second class for one-star riders has also concluded. Forty combinations competed in a two-phase special class over a height of 1.35m. Once again, the Dutch finished in the top three, and even in the top eight. Victory in the Lasaulec & Velzen Textielreiniging Prix went to Jessie Wiefferink and the seven-year-old mare Noble Ami (by Comthago VDL). Jessie finished the WTC Expo in 31.63 seconds.
Second place went to one of the local favorites, Age Flapper. In the saddle of the eight-year-old mare Milligram (by For Pleasure), he clocked 31.88 seconds. Third, just like in the first class, was Yoni van Santvoort. Yoni also competed with a For Pleasure offspring, La Pleasure, and their time was 32.49 seconds. Three mares thus finished highest.
Also training
Jessie: "I'm almost entirely focused on horses. I work at my parents' stables, where I ride almost all day. I'm still taking a real estate course, and I have two more exams to pass, and then I'm done. I already have my HBO (Higher Professional Education) degree in commercial economics, so I don't necessarily need to stay involved with horses my whole life. For now, though, it's good and fun. We have a fantastic team where I mainly ride the younger horses."
Watching other riders
Why Indoor Friesland? It's close to the VDL Stud, where we have a lot of horses. We've been there since the new Indoor Friesland opened in its first year, and we're very happy with it. My two sisters, Britt and Evi, also ride with us, and of course, Hessel Hoekstra, who rides for us. I take lessons from my father and Hessel, but I also find it very instructive at competitions like this to watch other riders approach and solve problems.
Noble Ami
I've been riding the horse I won with today since she was four years old. She's incredibly easy to ride and very cooperative. It's especially nice that she's a Comthago offspring, who also lives in our stables and recognizes several things about her. Noble Ami handles her work very easily, and I believe she's definitely capable of more than the level she's currently at. We'll continue training at a relaxed pace. I didn't see anyone riding before I had to enter the arena today, so I just tried to keep things simple, and that worked out well. The plan this weekend is to compete in the one-star Grand Prix.
Always horses
"Horses, horses, horses, so in the family. We're all infected with the virus and don't really talk about anything else. I enjoy going out for dinner or going out, but even then, it's always with friends who are also into horses."
