Univé Grand Prix Indoor Friesland 2025 for thirteen-year-old Joep Schaap

It's over for the riders in the one-star classes at Indoor Friesland 2025. They naturally concluded the weekend at the WTC Expo with their Grand Prix: the Univé Grand Prix, with a jump-off over a height of 1,40 m. Thirty-one combinations competed, and six, all Dutch, made it through the jump-off. He had previously won a class at Indoor Friesland and also achieved a second-place finish. However, he will undoubtedly consider today's victory the most impressive. Joep Schaap and the twelve-year-old mare Cadeauminka (by Kannan) crossed the finish line in a time of 36.73 seconds.

Evi Wiefferink and the eleven-year-old stallion Jucatan VDL (by Carrera VDL) received the red ribbon. They clocked 39.93 seconds. Third place went to Sytze van Dellen. Sytze rode the seven-year-old stallion Neymar VDL (by Thunder van de Zuuthoeve) and recorded a time of 38.15 seconds.

Tactical plan
Joep: "My strategy for the jump-off? I wanted to ride smoothly, but not too fast, because there were only two clear rounds ahead of me. I had devised a very good tactical plan together with my father and my uncle Willem Greve, and I managed to execute it."

Next year Juniors
"Cadeauminka was bred in the Netherlands. Willem rode her afterward, and then she was sold to America. She came back last year, and now I get to ride her. I'm thrilled about that. Next year I'll be competing in the Juniors, and my goal is to qualify for the European Championships after winning the National Championships."

Audience great
Am I tired after a weekend like this? Not at all, I'm just really happy. I've competed in several international competitions, but never one like this. I usually compete in youth competitions at venues like De Peelbergen. There are almost no spectators there, and I absolutely loved it here.

From holiday to holiday
Back to school on Monday. I don't like it at all, and especially after a weekend like this, I'm bummed that I have to go back. I live from vacation to vacation. I tell the class what I do, but I don't advertise it; they actually think I'm a bit weird.

Willem and father thank you
In two weeks, I'm going to another international competition, this time to De Peelbergen, and two weeks after that to Opglabbeek. Finally, I'd like to say how incredibly happy I was able to ride here, and I'd like to thank Willem and my father for all their help. Special thanks to Willem for making this wonderful mare available to me.
